Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality continues its rational investments that prepare the city for the future. Mayor Yücel Yılmaz, speaking at the commissioning ceremony of 16 tractor trucks that have just joined the vehicle fleet to be used in the transportation of domestic waste, emphasized that they will earn a public benefit of 4.5 million TL per month thanks to the vehicle purchases they have made since 2022.

Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality, which adds a new one to its investments and services that will add value to the city with each day, continues its works. Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality, which invests not only in today but also in the future with rational investments, continues to expand and strengthen its vehicle fleet. In this context, the commissioning ceremony of 16 tractor trucks to be used in the operation of transporting domestic wastes carried out by the Environmental Protection and Control Department was held. Ömer Munis, AK Party Altıeylül District Head, Hasan Avcı, Mayor of Altıeylül Municipality, Şaban Akkol, Deputy Mayor of Karesi Municipality, Celal Sürgeç, Mufti of Balıkesir and related personnel attended the ceremony. The Metropolitan Municipality, which has implemented many investments and projects with its sensitive approach to nature, people and every living creature that lives on it, will not only ensure that domestic wastes are transported in a healthy way, but also save 4.5 million Turkish Liras every month by purchasing these vehicles.

62 MILLION OF VEHICLE INVESTMENT FOR WASTE TRANSFER

The Metropolitan Municipality started to carry out the waste transportation operations, which were carried out through service procurement from 2014 to the end of 2021, by renting vehicles and equipment as of 2022 within its own structure, it has invested approximately 62 million Turkish Liras on 30 trailers, 1 dumper trailer and 2 tractor trucks purchased last year and the vehicles currently in service.

4.5 MILLION PUBLIC INTEREST WILL BE PROVIDED MONTHLY

Speaking at the ceremony, Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Yücel Yılmaz said that as the Metropolitan Municipality, their main goal is to make Balıkesir a sustainable city where people live in harmony with nature. Mayor Yücel Yılmaz emphasized that while they strengthen the city with investments in line with this goal, they also increase their institutional capacity and service quality and said; “We are strengthening our vehicle fleet with the effort to become a self-sufficient institution. We started to carry out the waste transportation operations, which were carried out through service procurement from 2014 to the end of 2021, by renting vehicles and equipment as of 2022 within its own structure. In this context, in 2022, we purchased 30 trailers, 1 dumper trailer and 2 tractor trucks. In addition, by adding 16 tractor trucks to our vehicle fleet, we are starting to carry out the transportation of domestic waste entirely with our own resources. Doing this with our own resources means a monthly saving of 4.5 million TL and means public interest. If we had continued this operation with service procurement, we would have spent 8 million TL every month as the Metropolitan Municipality. Stating that they are happy to build a more beautiful Balıkesir day by day, Mayor Yücel Yılmaz continued:

“If I give an example with numbers; while the number of our transfer stations was 5 in 2019, we increased this number to 14 in 2022. We increased our rehabilitation and reclamation amount, which was only 157,850 m³ in 2019, to approximately 3.5 million m³. While the amount of energy produced in 2019 was zero, we are now producing 40,100 megawatts of energy annually. While our landfill rate was 60% in 2019, we have now reached 100%. As the Metropolitan Municipality, we carry an average of 1,100 tons of waste per day. We supply the energy needs of 50 thousand households with the energy we produce from these wastes we carry. We are writing a success story in Balıkesir for the environment, for people and for the future. Balıkesir will be the shining star of the country in the Century of Türkiye. I wish our new vehicles to be beneficial and auspicious for our city, and I greet you all with respect.”
