Ahmet Akın Mayor of Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Born in 1973 in Balıkesir/Gönen, he is married and has two children. He was elected as Balıkesir Deputy for the 25th, 26th and 27th terms. In the 25th and 26th terms, he served as a member of the Foreign Affairs Commission and as a member of the State Economic Enterprises Commission in the 26th term. In the 27th Term, he served as a member of the Industry, Trade, Natural Resources, Information and Technology Commission. Between 29.01.2016 - 10.08.2020, he served as CHP Chief Advisor to the Chairman on Energy Policies. He was elected as a Party Assembly Member at the CHP 37th Ordinary Congress and was appointed as the General Vice President of the Central Executive Board responsible for Energy and Infrastructure Projects. Later, he served as CHP General Vice President in charge of Local Governments. He attained education regarding language in England and education on politics at Bahçeşehir University. After graduating from Beykent University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, he completed his master's degree in Political Science and International Relations at Selçuk University. He also took part in many trainings and seminars on 'Renewable Energy Resources and Production' in various countries, particularly in Spain. He served as a general manager in private sector organizations operating in the field of energy, as well as the position of CEO and the board member in international holding companies. On March 31, 2024, he was elected as the Mayor of Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality from the Republican People's Party (CHP). He continues to work on environmentally friendly and more economical electricity generation projects that would end our country's dependence on foreign energy. He speaks English and Spanish languages fluently.
