28.12.2022

Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality has started the restoration of the 136-year-old Kundakçı Dede Mosque in the Altınoluk neighborhood of Edremit District.

Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality continues to protect the historical and cultural treasures of the city and to keep them alive with their restoration, maintenance and repair works. Metropolitan Municipality Historical Cultural Heritage Branch Directorate brought valuable structures to the city and today with the restoration works it carried out in many parts of the city. They finally started the restoration of the mosque built by Kundakçı Dede in the Altınoluk Village Square in 1886 during the reign of Abdülhamid II.

The mosque, which was built with a square plan, single minaret and wooden ceiling and has a small dome in the middle of the ceiling is covered with a hipped roof, while the interior has a spacious structure.

The structure, whose altar/mihrab, wooden pulpit/minbar, mahfili, ceiling and entrance door are quite unique, has undergone minor repairs and additions over time, however, it has largely preserved its originality. The Kundakçı Dede Mosque, where work continues, is planned to be completed and opened to worship by the same end of January 2023.
