International Day of Zero Waste Celebrated with Children

Within the scope of the "International Day of Zero Waste " events, the first of which was celebrated on March 30 this year, Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality, which sets an example in Turkey with its zero waste projects, came together with the little students and explained the importance of zero waste.

After the "zero waste" proposal submitted by Turkey to the UN General Assembly was accepted last year, it began to be celebrated all over the world on 30 March this year for the first time as "International Day of Zero Waste". Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality, which sets an example for Turkey with its 'Zero Waste' projects, has been making great efforts to overcome the environmental problems encountered at local and global levels in recent years. Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Department of Environmental Protection and Control organized a program at 23 Nisan Primary School to instill the projects it has prepared. Environmental engineers gave information to the students about the use of natural resources, the creation of environmental conditions suitable for human health and zero waste.

AN EXAMPLE FOR TURKEY WITH THE PROJECTS

Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality, which carries out projects that protect the environment, such as reintroducing the wild storage areas in the city to nature and converting methane gas into energy, provides significant support to the Zero Waste movement with the pilot projects it has implemented. Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality is leading for a waste-free life with many projects such as 'Zero Waste in the Field Project', 'Vegetable Waste Oil Collection Project', 'Pharmaceutical Waste Collection Project', 'Zero Waste in the Kitchen Project', 'Zero Waste Street' in every district, especially the 'Waste Free Island' Project, which is a first in Turkey, is leading for a waste-free life.
