The events organised by Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality within the scope of Republic Day celebrations witnessed colourful scenes.

On 29 October Republic Day, Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality offered free transportation to citizens and decorated the city with Turkish flags and posters of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Greeting the citizens with the convoy and sharing the 100th anniversary enthusiasm, Mayor of Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Yücel Yılmaz said: "The Republic of Türkiye is 100 years old. We will make this glorious heritage, which was established by a glorious ancestor with great struggles and gifted to us, last forever. I commemorate with blessings and gratitude our beloved martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the sake of the homeland, especially Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of our Republic. Happy 29 October Republic Day. "How happy is the one who says I am a Turk." The enthusiasm for the Republic was also experienced in BALBUCKS, and Turkish Flag, 100th Anniversary badge and balloons were presented to the visiting citizens. Mayor Yücel Yılmaz also accompanied the enthusiasm of the citizens in BALBUCKS.

'THE WOMEN OF INDEPENDENCE'

Within the scope of the 100th anniversary celebrations of the Republic Day, a theatre performance titled 'Women of Independence', in which the sacrifices of Anatolian women in the War of Independence were exhibited, was held. In the one-person play, the successful actress Ecem Yüksel, who told the stories of the female heroes of the War of Independence; Kara Fatma, Nezahat Onbaşı, Gördesli Makbule, Halide Edip Adıvar, Halime Çavuş, Şerife Bacı, Tayyar Rahmiye, Çete Ayşe Efe, received full marks from the audience with her performance on stage. The play received a standing ovation from the audience.
