Balıkesir Archaeology Meetings Started

The 4th Balıkesir Archaeology Meetings Symposium organized by the Metropolitan Municipality has started. In the symposium that will last for 3 days with the theme of "Mysia and Environmental Cultures Research", the status of excavations in Balıkesir will be discussed by the experts of the subject. On the last day of the symposium; technical tours will be organized to the excavation sites.

In the ancient city of Balıkesir, home to 30 ancient cities, the 4th "Balıkesir Archaeology Meetings Symposium" organized under the leadership of the Metropolitan Municipality has started. The symposium, which will last for 3 days with the cooperation of Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, Balıkesir University, Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University and Balıkesir City Council, is being held at Avlu Congress and Culture Center with the theme of "Mysia and Environmental Cultures Research" with the participation of expert academicians and archaeologists. The opening session of the symposium, which started with protocol speeches, was moderated by Prof. Dr. Abdullah Soykan, Faculty Member of Balıkesir University; with the speeches of Prof. Dr. Ramazan Özgan and Prof. Dr. Adnan Diler, both archaeologists. The sessions held afterwards are as follows;

Under the chairmanship of Gürcan Polat; Nurettin Arslan; "Assos and the Neighboring Polises: Lamponia and Gargara", Hüseyin Murat Özgen "Determinations, Comments and Suggestions on Cultural Assets Affected by the Reşitköy Dam in the Rural Area of Adramytteion at the Beginning of Rescue Excavations", Mustafa Şahin "On the City Plan of Kios" and Güzin Bilir "Akheron Necropolis Excavations".

Under the chairmanship of Nurettin Arslan; Zühal Eylül İçli's "Kale Karakol Settlements and Cult Contents in the Classical-Hellenistic Period: Examples from Adramyttene", Abdullah Kasım Sonkaya's "A Comparative Study on Lydia-Mysia Relations in Sculpture", Ahmet Tercanlıoğlu's "Kyzikos Hadrian Temple Frieze Belt Sacrifice Scene", Hasan Kasapoğlu presented "The Cult of Telesphoros in Parion with Coroplastic Data and Comparative Analysis with the Thracia-Mysia-Troas Regions", Murat Karagöz presented "Asclepius Altars from Antandros" and Seçil Çokoğullu presented "A Group of Terracotta Figurines from the Rescue Excavations of Antandros Necropolis".

Zeynep KOÇEL Erdem chaired the session; Sinem Mutlu's "Evaluation of the Black Firnished Ceramics Found in the Excavations of the Ancient City of Adramytteion with Similar Examples from Anatolia", Hakan Aycan's "Late Roman Light Colored Ceramics from the YK Sector of Claros", Ramazan Yılmaz's "Late Roman Light Colored Ceramics from the Ancient City of Kyzikos", Büşra Elif Kasapoğlu presented "Characteristics and Distribution Areas of Hellespontos Isliği Ceramics with Current Data", Evren Açar presented "Antandros Lesbos Amphoras" and Ali Rıza Can presented "Differentiation of Burial Traditions in the Mysia Region and the Geography Close to this Region".

TECHNICAL EXCURSION TO EXCAVATION SITES ON THE LAST DAY

During the first 2 days of the symposium, 13 different sessions will be held by experts on many topics such as the excavations carried out in the region, the findings from the excavations and their contributions to the culture and tourism of the city by bringing these findings to the city and daily life. On the last day of the symposium, which will contribute to furthering the ongoing studies and researches in the city and further development of Balıkesir in the field of archaeology; technical trips will be organized to the excavation sites in Balıkesir.
