'Grey Water' Project Saves 1 Million Cubic Meters of Water
12.12.2023

Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality has implemented the 'Grey Water' project at "Edremit-Altınoluk Waste Water Treatment Plant".  Thanks to the project, 1 million cubic metres of wastewater will be treated and recycled, and this wastewater will be reused in agricultural irrigation, landscape irrigation and fire brigade services.

Metropolitan Municipality is expanding the usage area of treated wastewater in Balıkesir. Taking precautions against a possible water crisis, the Metropolitan Municipality will use the grey water treated with the system commissioned at "Edremit - Altınoluk Waste Water Treatment Plant" in agricultural irrigation, landscape irrigation and fire brigade services.

WASTAGE ENDS

Considering wastewater as an alternative water source, Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality established a grey water network at Edremit-Altınoluk Wastewater Treatment Plant in order to reduce water use, protect primary water resources and prevent waste. Through the grey water network, the Metropolitan Municipality aims to recover approximately 1 million cubic meters of treated wastewater in 2024 and reuse this water for agricultural irrigation, landscape irrigation and fire brigade services.

WE ARE CREATING A 'GREEN CYCLE'

Mayor of Metropolitan Municipality Yücel Yılmaz said, "Protecting water is one of our most important duties. We take every step for this. We have expanded the usage area of treated wastewater to prevent water waste and use water more efficiently. With the grey water network we have established in Altınoluk Waste Water Treatment Plant, we will create a green cycle by recovering the water treated from wastewater and using it in the required area. We are realising this project for the first time in our region as Metropolitan. May it be auspicious".
